What is the Beehive?
My classroom, affectionately known as the Beehive, is where students come to receive extra support in reading and/or math in order to best meet their academic needs. This program is federally funded with Title 1 grant funds. East Lansing Public Schools uses a system called MTSS (also referred to as RTI) to make data-based decisions on how to best help students improve their academic skills. We use various sources of student data to determine whether students need extra support in addition to the core general educational curriculum. On a regular basis, a team of teachers and specialists meet and discuss this data to evaluate student progress and needs. Students are then grouped according to skills needing improvement and a plan is made to meet those needs.
My role as an Interventionist is to meet with these groups of students and plan lessons to target the specific needs of the students. Students in the Beehive will have an individualized and measurable goal (using a tool called AIMSweb) to ensure they are making progress within their targeted skill(s). Students will be monitored weekly on this goal. Once a student meets their goal, the team will determine whether or not continued support in the Beehive is necessary.
Communication is vital to ensure student success. If you have any questions or concerns at any time, would like to schedule a meeting, or volunteer in the classroom, please contact me by phone or email.
In addition, I will be using the website Bloomz for parent communication. This website will allow me to share news from the beehive and help you stay connected with what we are busy learning. Please let me know if you have not received an email to join. Click on the image below to learn more.
