Welcome back to Whitehills Elementary Physical Education! We will be sharing new experiences that will help us to all learn and grow!
August 22, 2018
Dear Whitehills Families,
I am very excited to continue to be a part of Whitehills Elementary as your Physical Education teacher. Because I am the PE teacher for all classes, I anticipate a year of consistent and progressive curriculum which will guide each student to reach his/her potential. I look forward to sharing a wide range of movement, fitness, recreational, and health related activities with the students. My movement background is quite eclectic – starting with basketball, volleyball and track in junior high and high school, then performance dance (in college), recreational running, aerobic dance, ballroom dance, folk dance, tennis, pickleball, and yoga. I’ve also dabbled in other fitness/movement activities over the years; however, those listed have been the most prominent. I believe a body in motion promotes clear thinking, vitality, and overall wellness.
Our Physical Education setting is based on building relationships with and between students. Working together we can help each other develop skills, improve fitness, and foster healthy habits. To promote the building of relationships, our Physical Education environment will reinforce Whitehills school-wide behavior program– be safe, be kind, be respectful.
Our Physical Education experience will include a variety of activities which will help all students to grow in their movement skills, as well as gaining more confidence with playing in group activities. I believe in and work to foster a growth mindset for all in our classroom (that happens to be in the shape of a gymnasium!). To quote a portion of a favorite poem by Heidi Harrell:
Somehow you knew that if you kept trying
Your chances of success would keep multiplying.
The same is true with every risk that you take,
Your just have to learn from every mistake.
Where you put your effort, the goal will be met
As long as you remember the superpower of YET!
Please note that gym shoes are required equipment for Physical Education class. Proper shoes – closed toe and heel – that are tied properly provide safe support for your child. I have many pairs of shoes along with clean socks if your child should occasionally forget to bring his/her own shoes. I have posted the daily schedule for Physical Education on my teacher page to help everyone remember.

Thank you ELEF!!
A big thank you to the ELEF for providing funding for two grants!! The first is a collaborative grant with Mrs. Pike. We will be working together to introduce Drum Fit to our students. We are both very excited about this collaboration!! Secondly, many of you know that floor hockey has a great tradition in East Lansing…so Whitehills now has floor hockey equipment ! I truly appreciate the generosity of East Lansing and the ELEF!! Please see photos below...more to come!!
